Happy Sunday! Last week, while in La Jolla, I took time to visit one of the most incredible architectural wonders in Southern California: The Salk Institute by architect Louis Kahn. Built in 1962, the The Salk Institute for Biological Studies is an independent, non-profit, scientific research facility founded by the creator of the polio vaccine, Jonas Salk. The building's scale is awe-inspiring and a channel of water flowing in the middle of a courtyard separates its two structures. Interestingly, the Institute was designed to promote collaboration, therefore no walls separate laboratories on any floor. A visit here is a must, especially if you live in California.
