问候，每个人都 (Wènhòu, měi gèrén dōu!)
Hi everyone! I am excited to reveal that I have been featured in a major Chinese fashion magazine: SELF China. This glamorous publication is part of the Conde Nast family and sells millions of copies every month. June's issue takes a peek into some of the world's most interesting shoe collections. I am honored to be chosen to represent North America.
I would like to thank Dana Poblete from Cool Hunt, and talented photographer Christophe Wu, who came to New York City to photograph my shoe collection.
I have included the interview below the page scans. Thanks SELF China!
-Do you have a future plan for all your shoes?
I hope to have a daughter who shares my shoe size. And one day telling her a story for each shoe.
-Describe your interactions with others in relation to shoes. Do you share, exchange, donate, or give style advice about shoes?
I love to donate shoes because it makes me feel good knowing that they will have a second life/home. That's why I love buying vintage, to imagine the adventures of the person who wore these clothes. I love giving that gift to someone else.
-Can you talk about New York culture, how it influences you in your shoe choices and how it influences local shoe design?
New York is a visual culture. Because there are so many people on the street, you communicate through wardrobe. What you wear is how you express your point of view, how you see the day. This dynamic city vibe lends itself to some of the striking work of New York's local shoe designers. They see an outfit as a sentence with the shoe as the period. As such, lavish colors, decadent materials, street savvy and metropolitan sophistication define the local design sensibility.
-How old were you when you wore your first pair of heels?
It was in seventh grade that I fell in love with a pair of heeled shoes…I tried them on and it was love at first step. I had to beg my parents to allow me to wear them.
-Describe your shoe closet. How much space do your shoes take up in your home?
In my main closet, I keep around 150 shoes on display. I have a dedicated room with art pieces and things that inspire me. One of my favorite things I keep in each of my shoe closet is Visionaire No. 58, Spirit. I am obsessed with Lee Alexander McQueen!
-What is your favourite pair of shoes and what is the story behind them?
My royal blue and turquoise strappy Gucci python peep-toe platforms because of their incredible color and perfect height. They literally go with everything and are the most comfortable shoes I own.
-How do you feel about wearing uncomfortable shoes for the sake of beauty?
If I love something, I don't think of pain. I also don't wear things for the sake of beauty. I wear shoes as art, the beauty of which is subjective.
-Compare your love and passion for men and your love and passion for shoes.
I try to keep my love life and closet separate, though in both, I am lucky to have objects of affection.
-Who are your favourite shoe designers?
Alaia, Givenchy, Dsquared2, YSL, Gucci and Louboutin.
